American Pie 'How are young people presented in contemporary media' #1

American Pie - Trailer
This film is about the life of a group of young people during their time at high school, showing their love life, social life and friendship.

  • The first camera shot focuses on the main characters face, this suggests that it is a personal moment but when his parents walk in (0:16) the camera angle widens so that all three are on screen (0:22) this gives the impression that he has no privacy and it shows an invasion of space.
  • In the next scene (0:31) two girls are seen talking about losing their virginity and how they want to get it over with. I believe that this gives the impression that teenagers are not bothered about their virginity and sex is just something they want to get done, this is a false representation of teenagers.
  • At 1:10 the camera flips between different groups of people suggesting that nothing is private and that things aren't always kept between who you think.
  • The music during the trailer changes several times fitting what is happening on screen. The upbeat songs show the wild, fun, free side of teenagers where as the slower songs are playing during the awkward, romantic or disappointing scenes.
  • At the end of the trailer there are several scenes throughout the movie shown, each a few seconds long, suggesting how fast young peoples life is, which both good times and bad.
